China is one of the largest countries in the world, why cannot they find and drill their own oil?

Surely China is large enough to have oil reserves somewhere!
they have control of more land then any other country except Russia

China has a lot of oil reserves, however, as its economy is growing at record rates, the supply simply cannot meet up with the demand. Supply, of course, is slow to increase as it takes time to open oil fields, while demand is increasing much quicker in line with its economy (which some say is overheating). Moreover, there is so much ready supply of oil in the global market to meet their short-term (and possibly long-term) needs.

But the problem is that there are too many people in China and as the nation start to grown stronger and the people's lives start to improve the energy sources that China herself have are just not enough.

Not enough resources to scan the lands from the satellite to see whether 200kms under their land lies the dormant oil. Plus, they have too many people (more than a billion) so the government has to feed its people first, and think of finding oil, the easier way - by buying it.
