I do not believe there is a set length of time required to get a head stone. I have heard of people years after someone has past getting a head stone. I can not say for certain this is true all over. It wouldn't hurt to ask the care takers of the cemetery about this.

No...if you walk through the cemetery, there are marked graves where the family was never able to afford a stone, and it is still marked with a plaque.
My mother and aunt just chipped together and paid for a stone for their brother that had died about 20 years ago, and his wife didn't ever buy a stone.
Good luck!!

Not at all. In some cases stones will go unmarked as a family can't afford one. If money is a problem than save until you can get one. Believe it or not some of the Monuments Places have sales! I know my friend got one for her husband for 500 and it had been 3,000. It's beautiful Marble. Truly is whatever the family can and wants to do.

NO and yes. It depends on your local cemetary, But I finally put one on my WW2 dad 10 years after he died. I wanted something special but I was transferred overseas and couldn't do it from there. The cemetary was willing to work with me and I finally got home and was able to put a "proper" headstone on his grave. As long as the "fees" are paid. You should be just fine.
Blessings

I guess you'd have to check with the people who own/oversee the cemetery. I discovered my Dad didn't have a headstone and had one installed almost 30 years after his death.
