there actually is a short story on that where people built large space crafts that held many people in it...where they were able to create food water and oxygen and it was like living in a big community. it would have been possible to live on this space craft if they found that mars or any other planet was inhabitable, they just didn't want to because it was the same routines, sights and there was nothing new...how would you like to live on something like that? it would bore the heck out of me!

With the rich and the wealthiest first. The other 6.5 billion people on the planet would die with it.
At todays maximum capacity we could send maybe 20 people into low earth orbit per year and those would be the ones that have the means to pay 20 million dollars for tickets for them and their loved ones. The worlds population increases by about 100 million per year making an evacuation of earth quite hopeless. The only consolation would be that we might know of the end of the world a couple of centuries before hand. At that time humanity might be able to come to terms with itself as a species and ponder over the mistakes we made. Because the end of the world will most likely be our own fault.

We couldn't. It would simply be impossible. We have no way to send even one single person to Mars and won't for many years, and even if we could, we could never send every person on Earth there. We couldn't even evacuate Europe to America if Europe were ending, and we HAVE ships and planes to move the people. The job would just be too big. There aren't enough ships and planes in the world to do the job. And even if we could send everyone to Mars, nobody could live there. The air is too thin and poisonous. There are other problems, but that air thing is definitely the biggest problem.
