Girls, why don't most Swim Teams allow Bikinis?

Plain and simple aerodynamics. A one-piece suit reduced drag, a bikini creates drag. How? A bikini creates extra body lines for the water to pass over and that makes you slower.

Other aspects of this choice include comfort and exposure. Like many people have said, one-piece suits are far more secure on the body than bikinis. Some girls might not be comfortable in a bikini on the block as well. Team uniformity creates strength so coaches choose suits that suit everyone (no pun intended!).

In triathlon and multi-sport racing, as well as open-water, a bikini is often the more popular choice. But these are racing suits, not little beach bikinis. Since triathletes don't change their clothes (with the exception of some Ironman events) during a race, they have to wear the same uniform for the swim, bike and run. A triathlon bikini consists of either brief or short bottoms with chamois bike padding and a tankini or sports-bra cut top. These suits allow the athletes to transition from the swim (no diving required) to the bike (hence the shorts) to the run without ever changing clothes. This allows the athletes to post the best times possible with the least amount of work in transition. They do make one-piece triathlon suits but as you can imagine, riding a bike in a one-piece for 30 miles and then running 6.2 in it can be a very uncomfortable expericence!

Open water swimmers wear both types of suits, though I personally prefer a one-piece just for convenience and drag factor.

Hope this helps!!!

A lot of it is because of the drag you get from them. You get better times and can swim through the water faster and more easily in a one piece. There are special suits for racing. In fact, if you watch races, you will see men wearing one piece suits and even full body suits. You can also pop out of a bikini way to easliy for swim team. They are not very practical. I should know!

Good question. Speedo for men stay up when tied properly so it isn't for that reason... I can imagine the "gear failure" problem with strapless bikini.. so they would have to be over the shoulder straps... otherwise... no reason.... apart from the fact that skins are the most popular form of racing suit for men and women... something to do with the way bubbles are trapped against the fabrics and how that helps with streamlining.

Because regular suits help you swim faster and the coaches want all the suits to match so everyone has to wear the same type of suit because some people dont want to wear bikinis.

first off, when your dive the swim suit willl most likely slip down or fall off. which would not be fun. also a full peice bathing suit is more conformed to your body therefore making you more streamlined which in the end will make you go faster. Also most swim teams prefer that all their swimmers look professional.

Swimming is an intense game and body also needs maximum protection.

because it makes it difficult to do laps in, this is why you use one piece swimsuits for competition.

Because they are not swim-swim suits. They are just for beach swimming not competitive swimming.
