Poor ergonomics, re-evaluate the height of your chair and the tilt of your computer screen, also working on the computer for too long is a big reason. Cut your time at the computer in half everyday if that is possible you will see a difference right away.

Because when you use the computer, your neck don't have to move, so, if you use the computer longer, your neck will hurt.Or you have bad posture(like, hunching).
If you want to prevent this, you should like turning your head to the left and to the right and to the front and to the back(just do stretching) after 30 minutes when you're using the computer . This is to prevent your neck from hurting.
Or try buying a new chair with neck support. Also, next time when you're using the computer, remember to sit up straight and hace someone to remind you when you're not sitting up straight!

Gorrillas and professional footballers don't have long slender necks like human beings.

Our heads balance on your neck, and are held in place by fairly small muscles. This means, unless you are a gorrilla, if your head is leaning forward or back, you are putting your neck under strain.

Basically, the rule is, with your head level your eyes should be looking at the top of the screen. If this is not the case, you need to adjust your work environment. Raise your monitor or raise or lower your chair.

Also, be careful about the position of your feet and hands.

Pain indicates something is wrong, so it is a reaon to adjust.

you need to have someone give you a back and neck massage the hot tub works great as well as swimming in a pool also stretching when you first get up try this lay on your stomach and push yourself up with your hands bending your neck and back upwards. another 1 to do is this standing or sitting take both hands behind your head and push forward on the back of your head firmly then rotating your neck in a circular motion one way then the other. the swimming thing really helps though you'd be amazed.make sure your eye level is with themiddle of your computer screen and also your chair has a nice firm comfortable tall back with armrest also take breaks every fifteen min at least.

either your hunching over when your on the PC or your on it for too long. Try not to stay on the PC for more then 2 hours without taking a 5 to 15 min break. And try to keep your back straight, sit straight up. That should help as well.

Poor posture or the monitor angle needs to be adjusted for a more natural neck position.
