First, make sure that the data side of the disc is facing down - that is, if you open the DVD tray (it IS a DVD drive, right? Not a CD drive?) you should be able to read the label.
Second, click START, then PROGRAMS, and then Windows Media Player.
Finally, if the movie still doesn't start, click FILE, then OPEN and browse to the DVD drive.
(It is a DVD drive, right? Just making sure...)

Well, first, you must have a DVD drive. If you put a DVD in a CD ROM drive, it will not work (but put a CD in a DVD drive and that will work). Since a CD ROM drive is not made to read DVD discs, the machine will not recognize it. You can probably add a DVD drive to your machine for under $50, or a DVD writer for under $100.
As another poster suggested, make sure the label is facing up (away from the tray).
Once you get the drive to recognize DVDs, then you may get an error message about there being no DVD decoders. If you install a new DVD drive, you should get decoder drivers and player software with it. If not, or you've lost the discs, well, then you'd have to purchase DVD decoder files. Yes, purchase, because they contain licensed and patented technology.

Are you inserting a VCD, a CD or a DVD? Do you have a DVD drive? Have you installed the DVD drivers if you do? Have you watched other 'discs' before? Does that disc work on another computer? What have you done to solve the problem?
If it says 'no disc' it means that it can't read the disc in the drive for some reason.

You'll need to find out if the drive in your pc is a CD drive, or a DVD drive. If it's a CD drive, your drive will not read DVD's of any sort. If it is a DVD drive, then you may need to make sure that there is a proper driver installed for it. To check if it's a CD or DVD drive, do this:
1. Right click on "My computer"
2. Left click on "Properties"
3. Left click on the "Hardware" tab
4. Left click on the "Device Manager" bar
5. Left click on the + sign next to the entry for CD or DVD drives.
You should now see the drives listed, with a description of the drive. If it only says something like "CD-ROM", then it's just a CD drive, and will not be capable of playing a DVD.
There are replacement drives that you can buy to replace your CD drive with a combo DVD/CD drive. If you feel you don't have the skills necessary to do this job, I'd recommend taking it to a local computer shop to have that done. Hope this helps.

It actually depends on what kind of disc you had put in to the drive. If your CD-drive is only for CD's and not compatible with DVD, it really won't work, and nothing will happen. But if you can get yourself a DVD decoder (that's to be bought at computer stores), then you can already play DVD's in your computer. Another option to watch movies is to go to YouTube. You'll find a whole lot of selection in there...^_^
