I have tried to download this free software but it's taking decades since I have dial up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been using AntiVir for years now, and encountered no problems so far. You may download it for free at:

Cheers!

You would probably be more interested in a small download thenl The smallest one I know of is AVAST! 4 home edition, which is free for non-commercial use. The english version download is 14mb. It will still take you forever on dial-up, but maybe you can use a program like getright or freedownloadmanager to start it then go to bed.

You don't have to spend decades downloading some heavy antivirus software. Go to http://www.infectedornot.com and give an online try to the new security tools from Panda Software (Panda NanoScan and Panda TotalScan).

That web site is part of Panda's new campaign "Infected Or Not?".

There you can try their new products for free and, in exchange, they collect statistics that are presented in the campaign's website to raise awareness on the malware infection problem.

You should try them, they have more virus definitions than anybody else and they detect all kinds of malware (viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, hacking tools, etc.)

Grisoft makes decent anti-virus software free for home use, but you do indeed have to download it. If you have a friend who has high-speed internet and either a CD burner or a USB flash drive, you can have them download it for you and transfer it to your computer.

Multi Virus Cleaner has a very small size, 1.33MB. so it won't take a long time to download on dial-up
