I am 20 weeks pregnant, I only have a few outfits so far. I know it's a girl, we found out a couple weeks ago. I was just wondering what other mothers had bought by the time they were 20 weeks. Does anyone know where I could get a checklist online? I have no idea where to start it seems like there is so much stuff to buy. What could you already moms not live without?? I am having a baby shower but it's going to be very small and I am not expecting any of the big ticket items. It is a shower that the co workers are throwing for me. Any input will help. Thanks for your comments.

I did not start buying stuff until after my shower....probably around 32 weeks.

Here are the things that I found most useful:

GOOD receiving blankets. Get the ones that are 30 x 40....most are 30 x 30 and that extra 10inches makes swaddling SO MUCH EASIER!!! Child of Mine (at WalMart) makes really really great ones. You can get 3 of them for $9.00 and they are durable, soft, and come in great patterns!!

A Moses Basket....I got one of these for my second baby and it was WONDERFUL!! Better than a bassinet because you can move it around....put baby in a quiet room at naptime or by your bed at night. Easy to take over to grandma's, too!! When they out grow it....turn it into a toy basket and tell your child that they slept in it when they were an itty bitty baby (they'll love that story....).

Onesies, onesies, onesies. Tons of them....cute outfits are find but Onesies are what your child will live in. Cute outfits are really just for going out....which probably won't happen a whole lot when baby is really small.

Swing.....battery operated. Does not have to be all tricked out.....the simple ones work just as well as the fancy ones. It's all about the motion. This is a GOD SEND!!

Bouncy Chair....not as essential as swing but still a great thing to put baby in when you need to take a shower or cook dinner. Vibrations are great, too....help lull baby (or most babies, anyway)

Comfortable chair for you to feed baby or breastfeed baby. ONe that is easy to get up from if baby falls asleep. A glider is optimal.....

Soothing heartbeat CD and a CD Player for baby's room. The soothing heartbeat sound will help calm baby down at bedtime.....and introducint a music regime at this young age is great because baby will learn to associate certain songs and sounds with relaxing and bedtime. Get some great CDs for you to dance with baby, too.....I think dancing is one of the best activities for parents to do with their children. It teaches them an appreciation for music, not to take life too serioulsy and it faciliates a great bond between the parents and the child. Music soothes.....it brightens....it clarifies....it heals.

A Snugli.....one of those front-carrying baby holders. Great for quick trips to the store or walks around the neighborhood. Baby will LOVE being so close to you and you will have your hands free to do what you need to do.

These are MY essentials.....I am sure there are other items you will need. But when I look back on the days when my ladies' were babies....these are the items that come to my mind first as "essentials".

Have fun....good luck and Celebrate Baby!!

With my first pregnancy I thought b/c I was young and had a very active lifestyle that he would probably be born early ,so I tried to get as much as I could as soon as I could.By 20 wks I think I had some outfits and I bought more things as time went on.He wasn't born early, but my second one was. Both are healthy.

Anyways I know you can get lists in some parenting magazines...if you go to yahoo search and type new baby check list...

Here are somethings as a mom I know we needed for our babies...
a safe car seat
a stroller that can be stored away
baby wash cloths
diapers(you will want a lot of these try to have at least 1 bag of newborn and 1 bag of size 1 to start with)
wipes
onsies are great
outfits are nice
as far as clothes go it will depend on how often you do laundry for how many she will need but on average I would say at least 5 outfits to start out with
we always had to have pacifiers around
make sure to have a few burp towels
a few bottles
formula or a breast pump
good luck and conrats!

You can find checklists on any of the manufacturers websites (www.fisher-price.com) or store (Babies R Us, Walmart.com).

By 20 weeks we didn't have a lot. We had a tons of diapers because my husband bought a package a week throughout my pregnancy. Our first baby actually spent his first night home sleeping in his carseat before we borrowed a bassinet for 3 weeks and then ultimately got a crib. Of course, second pregnancy I had everything already.

What I couldn't live without: mobile with a remote control so you can turn it on without going in the room. Changing table, that's really a personal preference but I loved having one. Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo--the favorite toy for our 5 month old. Bouncy seat. Swing (get one that has a seat that reclines).

What did I have at 20 weeks?: Just a few outfits I found on clearance, and a dress and shoes I couldn't live without.
Checklist online?: I just found one on surebaby.com.
What could I not live without?: Carseat, Stroller, Bouncher, Johnny Jump-Up, Crib, onesies, sleepers, socks, and my breast pump (medela hand pump). Keep in mind that if your coworkers are throwing you a shower, hold off on stuff like diapers, baby wash, powder, onesies and blankets - because most likely that's what they'll give you.

I dont think that there is a real check list on what you have to buy at what time. Most stuff you may get at your baby shower. I got my crib as a hand me down. My pack and play I got at my shower and my cousin got me a stroller/carrier, so you may want to wait on buying the big stuff. As for clothes the moment I confirmed I was pregnant I went straight to Walmart and put a bunch of neutral color baby clothes on layaways. Then when I realized I was having a girl- the shopping possibilities were endless.

I only bought what I would need right away. Car seat, bed, clothing, blankets, diapers and wipes. All the other things came later as my daughter needed them. Also a lot came from my baby shower. I bought the greco pack 'n' play it's what my baby is sleeping in now even at 8 months.

Baby swing and bouncy seat! I still use the swing and the bouncy seat doubled as a place to feed her solids until she could sit up by hersef in the high chair.

1. Wouldn't it be easier to copy and paste the question, that poor dead horse needs kicked 1 more time. 2. It was a donation and I have zero problem with it. She is applying for a really big job and needs to look good. 3. The opponents have spent record breaking amounts on negative campaigns. Mr Senator Government wont produce receipts, medical records, and who knows what else. You would never stand for that from a Republican nominee. Dems had a fit when she wouldn't reveal her bathroom reading material. The double standard shows the Belittling and Disgusting parts of the Obama campaign.

Hi! Congrats on the pregnancy...

This is Carter's web page to what they suggest for baby...

http://www.carters.com/category/CategoryT4E.aspx?categoryId=33

As for the big ticket items... for me a swing was GREAT! My daughter slept in it the first 3 months

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265268&cp=2255975.2256080&cp=2255975&fbn=Brand+Name+Secondary%7CFisher-Price&f=PAD%2FBrand+Name+Secondary%2FFisher-Price&fbc=1&categoryId=2256080&parentPage=search

A stroller, but better yet for the first few months I used a Baby Bjorn. I went everywhere with her in it.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2267522&cp=2255983.2256186

When my daughter was about 2 months old, put her in this activity center (even though she was to short for it, I put a phone book, and a few other books under her feet she loved it)

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266243&cp=2255975.2256079

At around 2 1/2 months I put my daughter in this chair... It was great, it gave her a compleatly different angle of looking at things...

Ummm.... what else? Honestly, you don't need to much in the imediate beginning. Maybe a bassinet... Oh and diapers, but I don't suggest buying tons of one brand or one size. You really don't know how long the size will fit, and with the brand, well you may find you like some diapers better then others... I found that I loved the Pampers Swaddlers Newborn, but once my daughter was wearing size 2, I was on a mission to find some less expensive diapers... I found the ones I like best were from Costco. She now wears a size 4 and I am still using the Costco brand diapers. They are great! No leaks, and the sides are supper streachy.

Anyway, good luck and don't stress it. The hospital will send you home with everything you really need "to get started"
