Suburban with 112,000 miles has developed a "roaring" noise which sounds similar to noise made by off-road tires. Noise will disappear when turning left. I purchased new tires and replaced front pads. Also had front end aligned. Nothing helped. While making any type of left turn the truck is perfectly quiet. Roaring noise is always present when going straight and a right turn does not cause the roar to disappear.

i own a shop and it can be caused by a bad wheel bearing or a front differential unit on it trying to kick in,i had one a while back that did that, it would try to kick its self in 4 wheel drive and would make a real bad roaring noise when it was doing it,but it can be either a bad wheel bearing or even a bearing in the front differential on it because the axles still turn on this one even if its not in 4 wheel drive, and a bad cv joint will sometimes cause this also, good luck with it hope this helps.

when you check the diff look at the vacuum selector switch on it - its plastic and cheaply made - the ports that the hoses attach to are prone to cracking which causes a vacuum leak and difficulty applying 4wd

you didn't mention rpm range or speed of occurrence, as unrelated as it may seem, check out your fan clutch. when they stop slipping properly, that large 6-blade fan can sound like a freight train or a prop job on take-off!!
