To me the people of Virginnia Tech need time to heal from this horrific event as a community and that the attention of the world's media can only be hindering the healing process.
Am I wrong what are your feelings?

I understand your argument Cherylyoung however I would argue that the place the media now needs to concentrate on is the US Government, NRA $$$'s and a constitution that allows pretty much anyone to walk into a shop and buy a fire arm off the shelf, not to be so in the face of the victims families.
It's not my country, constitution or conscience that has to wrestle with this issue. What price freedom........I think this is a little too high don't you?

Definitely. It's pretty harsh for both of the parties being affected. I bet many people are hating on the killer's family.
:X I feel so sorry for them and for those who lost their loved ones. :( *Sigh*
Media people are cruel, sometimes.

You are absolutely correct, there was a cartoon last week in the local evening paper which showed exactly what the media are like. It was a picture showing a paper seller with a placard next to him. The placard said why we should now leave Prince William in peace, see pages 2. 4. 6. 14. 18. and special supplement. The worst thing about this constant assault on our senses is the long term effect. Many years ago a newsflash showed a young girl running down a road in flames after Napalm was used on a Vietnamese village. It was the most appalling thing I had ever seen and left me upset for weeks. Now I see worse virtually everyday and while upsetting it no longer shocks me to the same extent. We have become desensitised to tragedy and the media contribute to this. If they did it for some deep moral reason I could perhaps understand but it's all for the money. My feeling is Get out Stay out and let the poor souls grieve. God Bless them all.

How long do you think it will take to heal? A week, month, year, decade? There is nothing comparable to the loss of a child to murder. The pain never goes away. The grief subsides somewhat but then something triggers it again. The lives of the parents will never be the same. They will relive it over and over and over again. They will be so filled with anger that they are consumed. They will be forced to forgive just to survive.
Emotionally, it is nearly impossible to process such a horrible event. Sometimes people react in stages such as denial, anger, humor and blaming. This is a normal chain of reaction to tragedy towards the acceptance of the event.

People who have not suffered similarly have little concept of how devastating is the grief from the loss of a loved one to homicide. The surviving family members have a lifelong struggle ahead of them to overcome that overwhelming burden of grief. They will seek resolution in many different ways but there will be triggers that bring it all back again in vivid detail.
Survivors try to comfort the newly grieving in self-help groups such as:
Parents of Murdered Children
Citizens against Homicide.
(Members of both national groups have suffered the loss of a loved one to homicide) Compassionate Friends is also a self-help group however it is for parents who have lost a child to any cause homicide, accidental death or disease.

No one was to blame but Cho Seung-hui, however, things could be improved at V-Tech and elsewhere. People could learn to take responsibility for their own safety.
Let the media try to dig up ways to improve the system and make it
1) "safer" for students on campus
2) improve the mental health counseling referral system and notification between departments
3) make laws for person protection orders for women being stalked so that after the female makes a report, the authorities continue the process and follow up to keep the women safe.
Only pressure from the media gets things changed.
After the reports have been filed, the investigations have been completed and the recommendations made, people will calm down and feel secure, then complacent. Then nothing will be done.

Yes the story is over the bones are picked over... and over.......and over.......and over........
In fact there will always be mass murders
no law can or will prevent it. People these days seem always to want to be insulated from all dangers....That is simply impossible. The result is a massive and expensive inept Government and a loss of personal responsibility and accountability. One person carrying a firearm to class might have prevented the murder of 30 some people. All the people responding to it from outside were helpless to do anything. The police investigate murders they cannot prevent them.

you are right but of course the whole world is full of noisy people! to the common person the media gives them something ti talk about in their mundane lives! the public keep the media there as much as it is the fault of the media.
of course those ppl have the right to grieve, its a too big now for anyone to appeal to the media on a humanistic level!

I agree! The media needs to ease up and give these people time to cope with their tremendous pain and loss of loved ones and friends. They need time to themselves and to cope and try to determine how they will go on with their lives! Cho should have just killed himself instead of taking out innocent people! And the media are a bunch of opportunistic vultures who only care about ratings and money!

The media has not exactly covered themselves in glory on this one. I agree they should now retreat to a very discreet distance.

YES, they should. but they won't because it's getting them too much ratings(=money)
they are causing everyone trauma and it's criminal. I hate it when they ask they how they're healing. Do you really think they can heal in a week?

There are two people who will not allow it, cos they have an agenda to blame white people for it. nian3555 and waiching liu are the ones reporting everyone for no reason, report them back and point out that people at Yahoo do not have the right to censor us just cos we don't agree or sympathise with them.
