Tonight on Coach's Corner, Don Cherry said that McLennan only gave Franzen a "tap" when he slashed him. Then he tries to justify this by showing how McLennan got hit in the helmet by Franzen's stick. To say that the slash was a "tap" is unbelieveable! What do you think?

Sounds like typical Don Cherry. Say something to stir the pot and add to his list of colorful history. If McLennan slashed a canadien player he would be going crazy and demanding the guy never see a sheet of ice again even in a beer league (which is where McLennan belongs...it was a beer league show of class). Nobaody can be truly surprised by pretty much anything Cherry says, you really only want him to entertain with his silly comments. Sounds like another good night for Grapes!

Completely believable. My little bro when he was 10 slashed a kid harder then that while playing goalie and the kid didn't go down as easily. Franzen went down very easily, and acted it up. I never saw Cherry's comments, but when I saw it during the game I thought it was not that hard of slash. The first slash when Franzen was in front of McLennan was harder, and Franzen didn't even look bothered. As for McLennan, I don't condone his actions, but maybe the NHL will smarten up and stop the running of goalies that has happened in all of the series.

If Franzen had been the one to 'tap' McLennan Cherry would have said it was a slash not a tap.

According to Cherry Canadians 'tap' and Europeans 'slash'.

He is very knowledgeable about hockey but his view on non-Canadians leaves a lot to be desired.

It'd be interesting to see what Cherry would think if he was the one getting "TAPPED"...

I think it was a hard hit with a big goalie stick, and McLennan deserves to get suspended

Cherry is biased, and everyone knows it, including him. So who cares? Cherry is Cherry, and he'll say what he wants. Then the rest of us will roll our eyes and laugh, and life will go on. I'm a huge Wings fan, and I still realize this. Let him root for his team. You'd say the same thing if the skate was on the other foot.

Thats a bunch of crap. If you watch the replay, you can see that McLennan intentionly turned the stick too, making sure he hit him with the narrow part of the stick.

Looked like choppin wood to me. I would fine and suspend the coach and arrest the punk goalie. We have seen this stuff before. It looked like a protest of the game misconduct rule by punks that should not be involved with the game. Don Cherry can go to hell to.

Do you really let anything Don Cherry says bother you? He's become a cartoon character. Watch Don for entertainment, not informed commentary, OK? We here in Pittsburgh have known him for the schmuck that he is for a long time. Now that my Pens are out...Go Devils!!
