Yes, more mileage in diesel cars than petrol. That's why all the big commercial trucks uses diesel for fuel. The engine have big torque too but in small RPM range. Petrol cars will left you as you shift more in that narrow RPM. Solution to this problem is by using Turbo with Intercooler and most recent technology for diesel is Commonrail Direct Injection (High Pressure Injection Nozzles) for performance like petrol cars with the same savings on fuel.

yes diesel engines are more efficient at burning the fuel there is no residue left compared to petrol engines which will never ever be able to compete with the diesel engine.
