Because you can become very close to perfect in something, just not everything. Also, you get better and learn in the process.

Well, "practice makes perfect" is just a saying. Not meant to be taken too literally since no one is perfect. Just because you can't reach perfection doesn't mean you can't try to come close. We reach for the stars knowing we can never actually touch them. We try our best knowing that we will always make some little mistake.
I got straight A's in school & won many awards. I was a perfectionist & often drove myself crazy trying to be the best. I've learned to relax & cut myself some slack over the years but I still like to do well. I still take pride in what I do.
Practice is the only way to achieve mastery (whether it's a sport, playing an instrument, etc). The more you practice the better (& closer to perfection) you will be. If you don't practice then you won't be any good at all.
No one is perfect but some people come awfully close (Leonardo da Vinci, Mozart etc etc).
Cheers!
:)

Nobody's perfect, you're right. And nothing is perfect. Standards of perfection are relative. You can't improve on something without the practice. All you can do is your best. That's as good as it gets.

What the phrase "practice makes perfect" means is that if you don't practice, you wont succeed. It is true you can never be perfect but without practice, you will be far from it. You should aim for the highest goals possible. That's why you practice.

Perfect Practice Makes Perfect. Referencing a specific task or skill, not a person being perfect at every task or skill.

no one is perfect. but you can become very good at what you are practicing because you will become more and more fomiller. for example: i ran the 1600 meter(one mile) at my first track meet my times was 10 minutes and 48 seconds but i kept practicing, at the last track meet my time was 8 minutes and 25 seconds because i kept practicing. you say why practice why not? If your heart is in it, it does not matter if it perfect.

Because that proverb refers to a skill, not a person. You may possibly create something perfect even though you're not perfect yourself in entirety.
Just reaching here =)

practice brings you one step closer to that unatainable perfection. with practice, you are more perfect than before but you will never be truely perfect, no one can be.
