You are not charged for making the calls, but there is a 911 surcharge on all landline and cellular bills that help pay for 911 upgrades...... when state politicians don't take that money and apply it to something else.....

Nope. Even if you have a cell phone and havent payed the bill you can still use it to dial 911.

No, but most likely you are charged fees every month on your phone bill to support the 911 system, and the supposed enhancements they say they are making but never finish. I live in NYC and get charged $1.00/month on my home phone, $1.50/month on my cell phone.

no when a act of congress enacted the 9ii emergency systems act, it was set up too be a non profit type of thing. there is no charge for the systemm , and congress has stuck bye its guns on this one. as time goes along and technology changes the systemm we wonder how long they can keep going. it was a beautiful designed ingenious systemm, but its never made a dime off the publicc, in money wise matters.

indirectly - we all pay a 911 tax whether we use it or not. Take a good look at your phon bill

I was told no but I got a charge for it... I'll tell ya it made me not want to call for others but I still will...........
