At the end before the 300 Spartans get killed they seemed to know they were going to die. What made this battle different than the one's before. Why didn't they keep fighting in the passage. Was it because the Persians were just so much this time?

In the movie the hunchback showed the Persians a route around the passage. The Spartans were surrounded and knew it. They decided to fight to the last.

Nope, I didn't watch it.

In the Battle of Thermopalaye, YES, the Spartans knew it was a suicide-stand... they were buying time.

the spartans were brought up to know no fear and to fight till the very end... they knew that if they could not hold the persians at bay their village would be destroyed and with it their culture... so to protect their heritage they fought till the very end

The deformed spartan showed the enemy their back rear escape route so they were boxed in and could'nt retreat. They were completely surrounded and I hated that movie>;

Duh! The hunchback had betrayed them and now they knew they were getting attacked from two directions! But they keep fighting in order to have a glorious death in battle which is what they were born and bred to do!
