Ionic bonds are much stronger than covalent bonds.

this will translate into

Higher BP / MP
Hardness
Brittleness
Electrical conductivity (when in liquid form)

Molten ionic compounds alway conduct electrical current. Because the ions carry an electrical charge. CaCO3 contains both an ionic bond between the Ca ion and the CO3 ion the CO3 ion is a polyatomic ion formed by the covalent bond between carbon and oxygen.

Most ionic compounds exist in solid while covalent compounds exist in liquid or gas.
