It's specific to the pill, and your doctor should have told you. I started taking Yaz and my doc said one week with condoms was enough. Check out your specific pill's website and it should tell you. Worse case, I think you're already past most breaking points, if you want to play it really safe, go a month and you will be just fine (99.99% fine) :)

Yes, if you take it just after you stop your period you can have sex a little safer. Just remember that if you miss one pill it definently increases your chances of becoming pregnant 100% no matter how long you have been on it. Also remember that sperm can live inside the vagina and tubes for 5 days outside of the males body. Not to scare you, but you sound like you do not want children at this time, and just wanted to let you know.

It should say in the instruction pamphlet of your pills. From my recollection, I was instructed to use an alternate form of birth control for the first month.

BTW: If you lost the information, you can do a google search with your brand of pills to find the manufacture's website to learn the info.

my girlfriends told me 2 months before it works. I've never used it, so i don't know. i found this on wiki answers "The paper on the inside says after 1 week but many doctors say wait a full month. So, if you want to take a chance and wait a week go ahead but remember these companies want to sell their product and some put the altered truth (not necesarrily a lie) to make them sell better."

Just judging by past experience, the doctor said to use another form of protection for the first 7 days to prevent pregnacy. You should use condoms anyway though to protect from STD's.

My doctor and the pharmacist told me that if I started it while on my period that it would be effective immediately, because it would prevent me from ovulating. He said if I started it any other time I should wait 30 days since I could have already ovulated.

Don't you read the literature that comes with your pills? Didn't you listen to the one who prescribed them when you were giving the information? Obviously since you didn't listen to that part then you didn't listen to when you were told the pill is NOT 100% effective in preventing firtiliaztion and is NO protection against STDS, HIV, HPV
