Here are a couple of drinks you can have before you go to bed which help you sleep: Camomile tea, hot milk
Also, if you have a bath before you go to bed put a few drops of lavender oil in it, and that will make you sleepy.
One thing i have found that helps is to close your eyes and picture just blackness and concentrate on that. Because you're concentrating on seeing the blackness, you drift off to sleep. The main reason people have trouble sleeping is because they have too much to think about and can't switch their brains off so they can sleep! Another thing some people do is close their eyes and roll your eyes so that if your eyes were open, you'd be looking upwards. Sounds strange but it works! Its mainly because again, you're concentrating on something other that whats going on in your life at that moment. Hope this helps!

I have had bad sleep problems for years. Try not to consume anything with caffeine in it, (including chocolate) after 5 pm. If you can't fall asleep after 30 minutes or so, leave the room and do some activity to make you tired, but leave the bedroom. Read a light magazine (nothing too serious). Take a warm shower right before bed. I bought 400 thread count sheets and a tempur pedic style mattress pad to cover all my bases. The last thing I recommend is something my therapist taught me. Lay in bed. Start at your head and try to relax your body in stages, like first your head then your jaw, then shoulders, then your breathing, then stomach, etc...By the time you get to your toes you are relaxed and sleepy, usually. Good Luck.

In order to sleep you need to relax, so read a book in bed, listen to light radio, make sure the bedroom is cool rather than hot and think about your last vacation, or a special place you have been to but enjoyed, perhaps want to return to one day. Do not go to bed worried, concerned, because you will never get to sleep, just relax. I listen to book at bedtime on the radio 15 minute short story and then drift off. It all has to do with being relaxed.

This usually works for me: Sudoku puzzles before bed. I just keep doing them till I get tired and start to doze off.
Any other kind of puzzle should do fine (e.g. crossword, word search, etc).
Because you're exercising your brain, this uses up energy and causes mental fatigue, and once your brain starts to switch off, so can the rest of you.
