How do you know if an organization is a legitimate charity?

How do you know that the donation you're making is really going to help whoever they say they're helping, and not going into one person's pocket. Is there a way to verify?

and see if there is negative information on the or their organization.

Nope...sorry, much like religion charity is based on your "faith" that the money goes where it supposed to. Refer to the Red Cross or Salvation Army, the money does not always reach those for whom it was intended.

When you pick an charitable organization you have to have "faith" that they will do what you believe is their intent.
