I have a 97 transport that takes Dexcool. Bought it from a private seller two hours from home. Put Peak antifreeze in it without realizing it needed Dexcool compatible anitfreeze. Drove for about 2 weeks and temperature guage went up and down and there was little to no heat but car still drove fine, engine never shut off and wasnt too hot. Had a friend drain ALL the antifreeze out of the radiator and the plastic tank. Didnt know they put straight anitfreeze in it without adding water. Drove about 1 mile and the low coolant light came on and engine overheated and van shut off. Took out some of the straight antifreeze and added water to the rest but its still overheating and theres not much heat. I dont think he added coolant to the radiator, just the plastic overflow tank. What should I do?

Some anti freeze solutions are pre-diluted on the shelf, some are not. Once cool, remove the radiator cap & fill the radiator with a 50/50 solution. Crank the engine & let it run till the thermostat opens up. Refill the radiator. Install the cap. Fill the plastic tank to the hot line. Monitor the temp guage while driving. Check for proper coolant level the nwxt morning while it is cool.

The undesirable in site visitors, ok on the throughway, factors strongly to an airflow project with a lesser possibility of a water flow project. you do not point out make, style or year, so listed right here are the two eventualities: If the fan is belt pushed it probably has a fan grasp, a finned aluminum tuna can formed element that the fan mounts to. those are intense failure fee products, and in case you have one you may verify it with the aid of attempting to coach the fan with the aid of hand while the engine is off. it is going to not spin greater desirable than approximately an inch in case you attempt to spin the fan in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it is going to flow easily. If the fan is electrical powered, I guess it would not run. complication-loose mess united statesthere are the fan motor, the relay that controls the fan, or the sensor that controls the relay that controls the fan that cools the radiator in the vehicle that Jack drives. Sorry - have been given over excited.

Let it cool down and then open up the radiator cap and check the fluid level. It is best to be sure that the engine is completely cool before you do this. It wouldn't hurt to wrap your hand with a rag as you turn the cap open, just to prevent it from splashing on you. good luck

Take it to a mechanic and have him check the specific gravity of the water/coolant mix and adjust from there.
or
Go to Auto Zone, or one of those places and buy a coolant checker. It looks like a small rubber ball with an big dropper tube with colorde balls in the tube. Read the instructions and do it yourself.

You better check the thermostat. Thermostats are way cheap, easy to replace... it would be a shame to destroy the engine over a $5 thermostat. Even if it's not the thermostat, it's worth replacing every so often.... :)

I would suggest getting the entire cooling system flushed out.
