Due to Bush's unnecessary invasion and occupation of Iraq and his proud ignorance of global affairs world opinion of America has suffered. People don't trust America any more. Due to a lack of trust there is not too much foreign investments coming into the U.S. China owns much of American capitol due to the 6 trillion dollars in debts that bush has accumulated (after the vast surplus of the Clinton era). Most investors are going into Indian, Chinese, and European markets after losing their trust and confidence in America. So will Bush be remembered as the man who brought down the American empire? Can the Democrats do anything to save this country?

I don't think this arrogance will work in the long run... if other people don't like us they won't invest in our companies..without foreign investments and with countries placing trade embargoes on us (like we did on Cuba) our economy will crash...
and what makes you think we can survive as a nation with the whole world against us... we need to work with the world to remain influential... this arrogance is not the only reason why people are falling out of love with America

It will take many good president to undo all the damage this administration has inflicted on our nation. It very well may be that 1000s of years from now when students (if anyone is left) study ancient history they list Bush as a major contributor to the down fall of America.

Not many people liked your last President. Although the new bloke seems like a big improvement, I think so anyway. Thought there were lots of different accents depending on which state/city you come from? Some of them can be annoying, some are cool. People....well there's lots of you and is a very big and diverse country so couldn't comment on the population as a whole, would guess you're all different. You make some great films in America + some top video games. If I'm gonna be insulting then I'd say some of your national sports are a bit rubbish. American football, why do you call it football....e.t.c.

There are grounds for concern.

Athens at first was focused on its domestic issues, as expressed by Pericles in his famous Funeral Oration of 432 BC. And their economy was stable and not inflationary. The drachma had intrinsic value, not just fiat money. As a result the wealth of the rest of Greece flowed through Athens and made them a wealthy banking capital.

But eventually the Athenians got entangled in foreign relationships. In the Delian League they were dominant and were tempted into corruption.

Instead of maintaining the finest domestic economy they decided to try to influence the affairs of Syracuse. This became their Vietnam and their Iraq, a humiliating defeat.

Yes, there were other factors, such as the plague, but I think Athens ruined itself largely by two things: foreign adventyres and alliances, and acceptance of ongoing debasement of the currency (like America's acceptance of steady inflation).

Bush will be remembered for his utter failure to restore America's focus on the appalling need for domestic reforms, and for abusing our fine troops as his personal tool in an unworthy foreign project. He has lost now and is too cowardly to make the inevitable withdrawal but instead will try to leave the mess for his successor to clean up. Not a pretty picture.

In a few decades when your children have to learn Cantonese and convert their dollars to yuan, thank Bush.

I do not like to hear the United States of America referred to as an Empire.

I can see how the open-ended War on Terror can be seen by others like one of those long ago crusades of the middle ages.

I would much rather see the United States of America as a peace loving nation that is willing to stand by honorable nations that are wrongly attacked.

However We, the United States of America have an administration that has turned us into the Terrorist by making up stories and using them to justify an unjust war that is killing the Innocent and the poor that can not afford to flee.

I believe,Bush and BushCo should be ashamed of them selves for getting us into this mess in Iraq and in the end should be turned over to the World Court for their Crimes against Humanity and the sooner the better.

America is more than just a nation, and Bush did have approval from the UN Security council to invade to enforce a resolution. America has endured hard times before - it will endure because it can change its government peacefully through elections - nobody stays in power here indefinitely. We might not be very popular overseas right now, but IF Bush happens to be right about changing the way things are happening in the Middle East, the opinion of Americans will change. I'm sure we weren't very popular in Germany and Japand and/or Italy during most of WWII. Now these governments are our allies, because we helped them to recover after the war. Things are always changing. The idea of what America really is will always be, because it that is more than a country - it is a concept where what is right and fair eventually wins out, and that is a concept that is common to human beings all over the world. America will endure.

By legal definition, their never has been an American Empire.

The U.S. is not an empire, because it lacks a legal emperor, king, despot, or other hereditary head of state.

The US is is an Hegemony not an Empire.

And, for many who don't know what a Hegemony is...it is the dominance of one group over other groups, with or without the threat of force, to the extent that, for instance, the dominant party can dictate the terms of trade to its advantage; more broadly, cultural perspectives become skewed to favor the dominant group.

....
PS: The US is also "insolvent" ... U.S. public debt on 30 December 2005 was $8,170 billion (or $8.1 trillion), which is nearly six times the amount of United States currency in circulation (M1 Money Supply), estimated to be $1,372 billion.

U.S. official gold reserves are worth only $160 billion, foreign exchange reserves $63 billion and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve $33 billion.

You guys are bankrupt.

We will probably never know who is actually responsible for setting a coup de etat in motion and stealing Bush's first presidency for him. However it went off flawlessly. They are the ones who started the ball rolling.
Perhaps Americas imperial ambitions needed to die sooner than later. I would not trouble with trying to save the country. This country is doomed and has been since the Reagan era. Its kind like revisiting the end of the Byzantine Empire all over again.
Bush did help to create even more powerful enemies who may someday hand us our heads.

I wonder, just who do you think you are? To post such things as this against the American President? Let me ask you for your credentials that would make you so qualified to stand in judgment and make those remarks against my President and my Country.
