I would find offense seeing it on TV but not on you tube. On TV it is thrust upon us through the news and media. Yes I can change the channel but not before I see his face and a quick blurb about him...
When you have TV coverage on an item you have an entire organization deciding that it is news worthy. By doing so the organization elevates the standing of the news story. Suddenly the images and story presented to (thrust upon) us. When one media outlet covers it the rest follow.
A You Tube video doesn't really have the same news worthy status affixed to it. Individuals make the decision to view it as individuals. And only after a large number of viewings does it get an acknowledgment or confirmation that it is interesting or news worthy. Also people have to actively look for it....
I do believe that self censorship by news organizations should be done with questionable material especially when broadcast. However these same videos should be made available via Internet in an uncut version so that individuals may choose to view them.
I will say that there seems to be a greater attempt to inform the public about the recent victims compared to some other stories.
But ultimately we are responsible for giving these perpetrators the notarity and fame they seek. Case in point can you name one victim from Cloumbine? No... But I bet you know the name of the two A**holes and what they had for breakfast that day ect....

I'm not sure which Youtube video you mean, but I've listed a couple below.
One answer is that the people who are offended by the videos may not be the ones watching them on Youtube. More than that, though, I think it's that we're trying to understand what could make someone do such a horrible thing. The footage is newsworthy, but it does seem to have been way overplayed. People may also be concerned about copycat crimes.

I don't know, some people just salivate over this stuff. We live in a sick world. You couldn't pay me to watch this monster rant. I don't want to see him and I don't want to hear him. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. Let the professionals evaluate these tapes. There's no reason they should be aired over and over to the public. Can't they forget ratings and money and have a little sensitivity and respect for the families? The thing that worries me is that other potential killers will see how much coverage this cretin is getting and will think "that's how I can get attention, that's how I can get famous".

because of the insatiable human quality of curiosity.
What made this guy flip out? Was he picked on? Was he dumped by his girlfriend? Did he break the yolk of his egg when he made breakfast in the morning?
What would cause such a total loss of humanity?
These are questions people want answered. I myself and curious. Hell I wanna see if this idiot, and those two nits that gave goths a bad name after columbine, had the same problems I did when I was going to school. There were times I did want to kill some of the bullies that made my school life a living hell, but I knew killing was wrong, and thought that in due time they will get theirs, even if it is not by own hands.
I think the reaction to the airing of the videos is just an example of people doing the ostritch and sticking their heads in the sand.

I watched it once and was not offended. I've seen worse on TV. It showed someone with knives and guns posing in front of a camera. I could hardly understand his ranting anyway. He was a nut case and now has to answer to a higher power for what he did. I hope he gets his just rewards. I quote his grandmother who called him "the idiot". She was right.

Not everyone is offended. I'm not. Call me crazy. I find it interesting. This was kind of one of those out-of-the-blue things. People wanna KNOW, just like with celebrities. It's almost shameful.

Why does traffic slow to a crawl when there's a big bloody wreck, pal?
It's called "morbid fascination". As an Asian, you should understand the concept...
