yes and no:
anyone in their "right" mind does not have to take or do anything they don't want to do, however, if they are at risk for harming themselves or others, yes they should be mandated by law to take their medication if it is deemed that the medication is effective and removes or lessens that risk to be of harm.

There aren't many state hospitals left. Yes, I believe in most circumstances, mentally ill people should be forced to take their meds. How can they possibly make an informed decision if the part of them that makes those decisions is ill? I think it's a societal "cop out" to leave it up to these individuals to care for themselves when they so clearly are unable to do it.

That is funny. The federal government has nothing to do with state hospitals, the state does. If a person is in a state hospital then they are incapable of making sound decisions so a social worker is assigned to make those decisions.

yes n no it really depends on the circumstances if it is a serious illness then yes but the drawback of makin patients take medication will be the legal battle n financial aspecs
