White collar crime causes more incremental harm but looks clean. Street crime shocks the senses (sometimes all five at once) and it is easy to jump to the conclusion that it is more harmful based on this visceral reaction. If you look at the staggering costs that the economy and society bear as a direct result of white collar crime, especially in terms of what those resources could do had they been funnelled into crime prevention, then your conclusions might be different.

Depends what it is. I'd rather have my car stolen than have my bank account embezzled, but not if it were a paid off Ferrari. That's just a numbers tradeoff.
Murder and rape are street crimes. Those pretty much scar people for life or end their lives and scar the lives of their loved ones. How can that not be more serious than any white collar crime you can think of?

Although the obvious answer is yes, what white collar crime brings to the forefront at its ever so increasing and exposure rate, significant devastation.
White collar crimes incite violent acts by its victims. It also deprives families from security including necessary incomes and nest eggs to properly care for one's family. It creates another criminal avenue of theft, i.e., tax evasion, robbery, fraud, family stress and instability.
If your question was one of "violent" rather than "serious", I would have to say "yes"; that street crime is more violent, but since you are focused on the seriousness of the crimes, I would have to say both are about equal.
White collar crimes also drive up inflation, insurance costs (both life and auto, etc.), gasoline and other petroleums, costs of manufacturing, shipping costs, and the list is seriously non-stop.
You posed a most interesting yet important inquiry. I am going to conlude that both are serious and both bring a seemingly endless chain reaction of desparity to victims.
Great question.

No, white collar crime causes street crime by increasing the income/wealth gap.

street crime has a higher death rate than white collar crime so, in this respect, it is more serious!

.It depends who you ask. I would rather get robbed at gunpoint than have my money embezzled by some pencil pushing geek. The real difference is to be seen in the media arresting minorities will get you re elected. White collar criminals donate money to political campaigns. That is why they get lighter sentences in country club prisons, and are made to pay back a small amount of the money they stole.

No but it does break down society but hey they have nothing to fear as prisons are country clubs and better than working for a living as they get shelter and food and gyms and computers and educational goals to futher,,,,,so if I were young why not It is time for prison reform { they must build their own structures and health care and food and etc etc then they will be too tired to rape each other and did you know the prisoners have their girl friends to come once a month a nd a room set up for them to have sex .???
