It is a trait that grows in some people out of a very painful childhood. The pain is very deep and often the person is not even aware of it until they get help. It is not taught but can certainly be fed through your environment. A lot of racists direct their pain towards only one particular race or culture. Many people have been raised by racist and are completely different themselves.
Intolerance, however, is overwhelmingly, a left-wing trait.

Well, originaly, racisim was mainly in the democratic party, but that was a LOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNG time ago, we're talking civil war times. But being as Obama is going for prez in 2008 as a Dem. I think we can safley assume that it has almost completely(i wish I could say absolutely completely) gone from both wings. Racism is more of an individual person now, not a political party or section of the nation.

Racism has been around even before the terms Right or Left were invented. By the way these terms came from which side of the legislature people sat after the French Revolution.

Liberals are open to all except those who are not open to all. Conservatives typically look down upon things they perceive as not traditional. So conservatives are typically more racist than liberals on most subjects as they don't accept things that are very different from what they are familiar with very easily.
