pull the fan motor off it usually has 3-4 screws and check for a dead mouse or two and bits of dried grass. They like to build nest in there. If your car sits for extended amounts of time that seems to be when the animals call it home. It was not a pleasant job for me to get them out you just have to get rubber gloves and do it.

If the smell is worse when first starting, it likely mold on the evaporator. If doesnt do it till engine warms up, and it's a sickly sweet type smell, then it's a coolant leak from heater core. In the latter, replace the core. In the former, try letting the fan run a few min with the a/c off before you shut the car off everyday. This will dry the evaporator and reduce mold growth.

It needs servicing. extremely what's occurring is that the water drain is clogged and the water is putting up in it. attempt to sparkling that first or get a provider tech to return in and supply it a ordinary cleansing

If it has a sweet smell to it, it is your antifreeze.
If that is the case it is probably your heating coil, the part isn't that expensive, but the labor is going to kill you.....

check the cowl usually the cowl has drain holes that get clogged up and dead grass and junk get stuck in there and rot

Probably blowing coolant. Anti-freeze tends to have a nasty smell if its old and what not.
