Most of the time I was reading so I don't remember. I remember reading the first chapter of one of my father's Hemingway books (might have been The Sun Also Rises) when I was like six and wondering what the poor guy did to deserve being kicked under the table.

Little Women and shortly thereafter Arabian Nights and
Grimms Fairy Tales. I think I read Nance Drew first though,
along with The Hardy Boys and Clara Barton, Flight Nurse.
Don't really remember the order, but all between 5 and 8.

The very first book I read on my own was Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss (although we're still not sure if I was actually reading or if I just had it memorized). My mom used to read all the Dr. Seuss books to me, and the Curious George books and the Madeliene books. The first chapter book I ever read was Ralph S. Mouse.

If you mean novel, I read Bambi when I was in the hospital getting my appendix removed at age ten. Then after I got out I read the Count of Monte Cristo.

It's a Spanish child's novel called "Los Hijos del Vidriero" (The Children of the Glass worker). It's a very lovely (and very dramatic) novel about the kidnapping of two poor children, who are taken by a rich man to his wife, since she can't have children of her own.

I recently found the novel on a bargain book store. It cost me 50 cents. I plan to save it for my kids to read it... when I have them.

The Little Red Hen, that was always my favorite book, my dad and I would read it over and over and over again. My dad can still recite the entire book word for word, but I loved it!!
