Here are some great options
Addis Red Sea - Ethiopian food. Served on a table wide piece of flat bread, which serves as your utensils as well. The staff there are very helpful offering suggestions for the timid as well as the adventurous.
Grotto - Italian and Mediteranian food. It's located on Bowdoin St, so away from the North End. The offer both a Fixe menu or you can order as you wish. Some of the best Italian I've had outside the North End.
If you want the North End, but want to avoid Hanover Street, try Ricardo's on North St - their prices are reasonable and their pasta is fantastic.
There's a cool website to find other hidden gems in the Boston area, that's worth checking out:

It depend on what type of food you like to eat. North End have some great resturant. Cheesecake factory is not expensive and give large portion of food. The is also PF Chang which is chinese food. CromaBoston on Newbury is affordable but the portion is quite small. THey are too much restuarnt in Boston many of them are really good while others are alright. THey is Shillia in Harvard square which serve Korean food.
If you can be more specific I can be more helpful. I eat out once a week. I know more food in the Boston area.

There are a lot of branches of fancy Boston restaurants that have opened recently in suburbs. The suburban ones tend to be cheaper and don't require $20/hr parking. Look in the Thursday Boston Globe Calendar section for their listings.
If you are looking for ethnic ones with genuine food that is made by families that bring their recipes to America with them, Arlington and Waltham have them one after another on their main streets.

Pomodoro's on Hanover Street in the North End. Then go across the street after dinner to Mike's Pastries for dessert.
Best pizza in the North End is on Thatcher Street at the original Pizzeria Regina -- not much has changed at the oh-so-delicious pizzeria since they opened in 1926. While you're waiting, you can look over all the pics of celebs on the walls.
I'm also partial to Amhrein's in South Boston.
None of them cost a lot and you'll enjoy yourself.

La Famiglia Giorgio's is AMAZING. It is an upscale restaurant with modest prices. I had one of the best meals of my entire life there. It is located at 112 Salem Street. I would recommend the house salad, pasta with meatballs, veal parmesan, and the desert canoli. That's what I had when I went - it was like a 4-course meal or something. I'm sure everything there is good if you would like to try something else.

hmm...try the North End of Boston. Great Italian food, and if you leave Hanover St you'll find great little restaurants with good food, low prices, and in the warm weather you can eat on a sidewalk patio it's a lot of fun.

Depends what sort of food you're looking for. . .Anything in the North End is good for Italian, Strega is my favorite. For something more relaxed and fun you could try Game On at Fenway Park, which is like a bar place, but with great food. Also, you could try some places around Fanueil Hall.

I have to agree with Legal Seafood...they have a KILLER lobster roll and their salmon in parchment is scrumptious too!!!! I'm originally from Boston and I miss Legal's so bad. Florida may be paradise but I can't get used to the seafood here.
