6x - 3^2 - 12 = 0
6x - 9 -12 = 0
6x = 21
x = 21/6 = 7/2

or maybe you mean
6(x - 3^2 - 12) = 0
6(x-21)=0
x=21

rewrite this as a mathematical equation first:

6x - 3^2 -12 = 0

Simplify the like terms:

6x - 9 - 12 = 0
6x - 21 = 0

Isolate your variable by adding 21 to both sides:

6x -21 + 21 = 0 + 21
and you get:
6x = 21

Further isolate your variable by dividing both sides by 6:
6x/6 = 21/6
and you get:
x = 21/6

Simplify your fraction by factoring out 3 from the top and bottom:
x = 7/2

Further simplify the fraction by turning it into a mixed number or into a decimal:

x = 3 and 1/2 or x = 3.5

Hope that helps! Always remember that these sorts of problems are asking you to rewrite them as mathematical equations or expressions. Once you have done that you can do various equation balancing algebra tricks to get to your destination.

Ooooh, On second thought I think Matihari's second read is more likely to be correct. If this means: 6x - 3^2 - 12 = 0 then what I wrote above is correct. If this means 6(x - 3^2 -12) = 0 then MatiHari's second take is definitely correct and x = 21

6(x - 3^2 -12) = 0
6(x - 9 - 12) = 0
6(x - 21) = 0
Divide both sides by 6:
6(x - 21)/6 = 0/6
and you get:
x - 21 = 0
Add 21 to both sides to isolate x:
x - 21 + 21 = 0 + 21
and you do indeed get:
x = 21

you take the x out, so the new equation will be: x*(x-1)=0 To make this equation happens, either x or x+1 will equal to zero. So we will find 2 solutions, which are: x=0 or x-1=0 which x=1 So the final solutions are: 0 and 1.

6(x-3)^2-12=0
6(x^2-6x+9)-12=0
6x^2-36x+54-12=0
6x^2-36x+42=0

use the quadratic formula: [-b+sq. root of(+/-b^2-4ac)] / 2a

6x^2-36x+42=0 which is ax^2+bx-c
where a=6, b=-36 and c= 42
u will get 2 answers for x, 1 positive and 1 negative.
