Because after you feel so dirty and disgusting for watching it, that you just wanna go in the shower and dramatically cry(like you would in an opera).

The term “soap opera” is deceiving, for it is not about soap, nor is it an opera! It is called this because soap companies were big sponsors of the radio shows back in the 1930s. The opera part comes from the fact that operas tell a story, just as the soaps do.

The first versions of these shows were mainly sponsored by soap companies, and the opera comes from the fact that is is overly dramatic and sad, much like a lot of operas. And by the way... i think soap operas are pretty darned idiotic.

When soap opera's first started, that's when they'd run the commercials for laundry soap to the housewives.
Thus, "soap operas".

some do and a few do no longer. i understand of a actress in a cleansing soap opera who replaced into pregnant and she or he use her toddler in her storylines. some will cover their actual being pregnant with dark outfits or a great handbag etc. yet lots of the toddlers they use are the two from a pal of the manufacturers or a solid member etc.
