I'm an artist, and wanted some new ideas on making my craft more eco-friendly, i.e. recycled paper brands, proper paint disposale, etc.

I'll give you an even more direct way to help the environment while "speaking" to the public about the issue without lecturing on it. I do sculptures with various materials in the "pre-recycled" stage. In other words, I reuse garbage. For example you could use plastic grocery bags, aluminum cans, egg shells, or other materials that won't biodegrade easily, but certainly do help the environment.
Also: save your empty paint containers, rags, and mediums in closed containers until you have enough to take to your local "toxics" drop off at the dump.

Beyond being a responsible citizen, i.e., buying organic food, driving a gas miser car, recycling, being political and voting for people with a sense of the environment, using minimal packaging, complaining anytime you can about waste, joining a food co-op, creating as little waste as you can personally, writing Congress, writing Presidential candidates, looking at what your own town is doing or city is doing, and generally being a good citizen, your art itself could have a message, in my view the most important message facing us, that our existence and carelessness over the centuries has resulted in a devastating climate change, the effect of which no one can calculate with any degree of confidence. Perhaps the subject of your art could reflect this, as well as being created in a way that supports your point of view.
