Many people are saying this is a binomial because of the squared variable. However this is not the case. The expression
y^2
is a monomial (it has one term) and yet it has an exponent of 2. So this shows that the exponent has nothing to do with how it's classified.
The reason why 5y^2+6 is a binomial is because you are adding 2 distinct terms (5y^2 and 6) together. If you have 2x+5, that would also be a binomial since there are 2 terms added together. I hope this helps.

it is binomial because it has two terms.
5y^2 is a term and 6 is the second term.
A monomial has no addition
A binomial has two terms added together
A trinomial has three terms added together
A polynomial is anything greater then four terms.
You should also watch out for equations that include like terms such as 5y+6y it looks like 2 terms but both are like terms since they both have the same base variable.
It can be written as 11y which is a monomial

It is a binomial ( i think).
Each monomial is composed by the product of a number (coefficient) and zero or more variables (for example these are monomials:
12x, y, 3yz, 5y^2, 34 ...).
A polynomial is the combination of more monomials, in this case i think this would be called a binomial.
Hope it helped.

It's a binomial because the highest exponent is two. The exponent is the one that comes after the variable and after the ^

It's a quadratic binomial.
It's quadratic because there is a y^2 term in it
and a BInomial because it has 2 terms.
