During World War II, many people in the West denied that the Holocaust was taking place. Their denials in the face of irrefutable evidence led to the needless deaths of millions of Jews. Are we seeing the same thing occur, but on an infinitely greater scale, since global warming is almost certain to cause the deaths of 100s of millions?

This comparison is not at all as far fetched as some people seem to think. The effects of global warming can almost be called genocidal-it will disproportionately affect, and cause the deaths of, the poor, mostly in third world/developing nations.
And please, could we stop saying that global warming is just a theory. It is almost universally accepted as fact-except among scientists in the employ of big oil companies and right wing wack jobs-even most mainstream conservatives now accept that global warming is a fact.

Not to offend you, but this is obviously a question based on a lack of education. The holocaust occurred in real time and while people thought it was happening or not – the governments of the world at the time knew it was. The American intelligence community even had detailed photo’s and maps of the major camps. Global warming; weather (good pun on the spelling) you believe it or not is something that is an opinion of a group of scientists. No one has photo’s or even causal evidence to its existence. I would propose to you that more people would take it seriously if the Hollywood left and the politicians were not involved. As none of them are exactly reputable in their own lives why should any reasoning individual believe them on anything?

Learn what you're talking about before you go spewing information. Actually no one in the "west" had a chance to refute the holocaust since no one knew it was happening before or during the war. The camps weren't discovered until almost the end of the war and even now only very extremists deny the holocaust.......global warming is a much different situation

As cautious as i am about global warming and it's effects, i wouldn't put the two on the same level. Hitler was a merciless mass murderer who killed 11 million people within a short time span. Global warming, although a very serious issue, can be slowed or even controlled by awareness... now if only we could get people to understand that...
But, all the same, the two are completely different issues and therefore cannot be equated to each other.

Global warming is happening, I don't think many disagree about that, the issue whether or not the problem is man made or natural. The evidence clearly points to the fact that it's natural. The only scientist to testify recently before Congress on the issue at the same time Al Bore did, said that regardless of one's view, nothing man does now will make any difference at all.

It is not denial that Global Warming is happening. It is. It is denial that there is proof that it is man made or to what extent if it is. So you are comparing apples and oranges.

Edit - ALexandra good question, so why is it when respected scientists dispute whether Global Warming is man made are shouted down and said to be in the pocket of big oil?

i think of cigarettes, Bible-believers, international-Warming, and the Holocaust are all completely random unrelated issues so i'm afraid i do no longer completely get your question... i'm going to assert those issues that i think, no longer because of the fact of any thoughts i think, yet because of the fact I certainly have had a life of researcing distinctive issues and seeing distinctive info. a million: Scientists everywhere in the U.S. are admitting they had some bribery in touch with the launch of archives that supported international Warming, and there is infinite info against it. 2: actual, touchable, readable info exists everywhere in the earth indicating the activities that occured in the process WW. 3: smoking has lots of scientific info that it motives lungs maximum cancers (as much as there is info against GW.) 4: the bible is obviously actual, this is the main suitable merchandising e book of all time and it sits in maximum lodge rooms and bookstores. in case you meant real, then you definately atleast have some fellow critics, yet there remains additionally lots of historic info helping the activities recorded in the Bible, that's shown extra traditionally precise than the different historical manuscript ever got here upon.

It's one thing to sit on the fence and wait for the scientific conclusions to gel to a person's sensibilities, but for a layman to declare unequivocally that global warming is not affected by humans is idiocy

No. What a sick comparison! The Holocaust offers hard (and harsh) evidence.. many survivors to attest to it (some that I have known) and photos and actual places and items used...

Global Warming is ONLY an assumption based on the cycle of weather. History and Meteorological history proves the cyclical nature of weather... there is no hard evidence for global warming... just opinions and theories.

Holocaust = hard evidence and is fact.
Global warming = no hard evidence and is only theory.

please do NOT link these two events. this is plain psychosis, what does on have to do with the other. please try this little test: go find a scientist, preferably a meteorologist and ask them if you can determine eonic weather patterns based on 150 years of data. its not freaking possible. there istn enuf data to make the assertion. right now at best "global warming" is only a hypothesis or an idea, its NOT fact, cripes quit swallowing evertyhing hook line and sinker that you WANT to believe. its political
