Last September, I got Diabetes Type 1. I don't need sympathy so please don't send me the inspirational, your life is'nt over, if you ever need to talk, blah blah blah messages. No offense. Anyhow, if you have'nt already noticed, I have no need whatsoever to talk about this, I don't need to be around other people with diabetes, the very last thing I want right now is to be shipped off for weeks on end to a diabetes camp, where they don't even use the word, in my SUMMER VACATION to have this forced upon me. Which is what my mother went and did. Signed me up, with no consideration of whether or not I wanted to go. This feels like rape.

I'm 16. Which is why this is bull. And she knows that I don't need this.

ok, this fool ^ has no sense. i have diabetes too. i've had it for about 5 years and i went to diabetes camp. if you do end up going, it's not that bad, just find a friend. depending on how old you are, you might be able to find a valueble argument against your parents. just say you are old enough to make your own decisions.

you need to reprioritize your issues-this is hardly rape. Get over yourself. Of course you want sympathy. Just admit it and I will give it to you. Your mom obviously feels this is best for you. Perhaps she doesn't know how to handle your illness. Surely there are far worse things that could happen to you. Lighten up a little and accept it. I wish my parents cared enough to do some stuff like that for me when I was younger. maybe I wouldn't be hooking my way thru college if they did. Just kidding. I don't go to college.

Holy Cow! That first one was a doozie!

Have you talked to your mom about this? Just try to make the best of it. Maybe you will meet some nice friends who can be inspired by your unwillingness to let this take over your life.

One thing I ask of you: Please, Please, PLEASE, do the things you are supposed to do for this disease. I help treat nice people every day who have been noncompliant in their youth. The results are SO sad and devastating.

play the sympathy card.
tell your mother you're fine with your situation [are you?] and you appreciate her concern but you'd rather stay at home and spend time with your friends, & be a regular kid, becuz the best way to get over your illness is to act as normal as possible, like you were before you had it. it makes you feel better.

thats what i would say

Type I diabetes can often be controlled with diet & exercise. Are you able to do this independently by yourself?

You have obviously never been raped. Must be tough having a mother that cares about you.

Tell her that forcing a retreat on you is going to make you retreat. Tell her that you absolutly DO NOT WANT to go.

My Mom still, after all these years, does that kinda stuff to me. It sucks.
