I doubt they'd be arsed as long as you gave 'em plenty of fish. Wait a minute! A PENGUIN rescue centre? In the South of England?! How many penguins get rescued around your way!?

Most penguins live happily in hot weather. There are penguins in Australia, South Africa and South America right up to the Galapagos islands on the equator. Their requirements are not cold weather but cold nutrient rich water supporting lots of fish, krill and squid.

London Zoo has various species of penguin and has bred them there for decades - as have many European zoos.

A penguin rescue centre in the south of England would have no penguins to be rescued. I would concentrate on northern hemisphere seabirds and leave the southern hemisphere birds to the rescue centres that already exist in the southern hemisphere.

I can't tell you an exact temp. but they need to stay very cold. Penguins actually are so well insulated that anything above their normal temp. will likely cause overheating.
