To answer your last question first - I knew someone who was pregnant and showed rabbits. Up 'til she was pretty much due she still worked with rabbits and attended shows. I'm not a doctor, but her kids are all fine and she is still showing so I don't think there are any risks.

Now for the first questions. Rabbits are all different. Some like to be rubbed on their ears, while others are head shy. If you flip a rabbit over and stroke it's forehead between his eyes it will relax him (or her) totally. My brother's first rabbit would get so relaxed we could lay him on his back on a bed and he would just stay there for a few minutes before flipping over. If you have a more lanky breed (like a Tan or English Spot) then they will like to run more than sit in your lap to be petted. The more compact breeds like to just sit and will be content if you pet them anywhere.

Hope this helps!

Rabbits like to be petted from front to back. To go against the grain of the fur is not that pleasing to a rabbit. Pet from there ears to there bums. They like to be scratched behind the ears and on there backs. Some are diffrent generally they dont like there bellys messed with much and if you frighten them too much you could get a nasty kick.
Rabbits, especially domesticated and raised rabbits generally are healthy and dont carry too many pests or parasites. If you just practice good hygiene and wash you hands regularly there isnt the scare like with cat litter and pregnant women. Its the poopies of the cats that carry toxoplasmosis and thats whats dangerous not to mom, but to baby. The fetus is whats in danger with that disease. I just had my baby on March 29, I have 4 cats and cleaned the box all the while I was pregnant. I wore gloves and a painters face mask. The doctors werent concerned to much because my cats never went outside. I have rabbits too and never heard anything bad about rabbits and pregnant women. Just be careful not to get scratched or bit and if you do be sure to keep the wounds clean.

I don't think there are any extra precautions with rabbits - just use the usual hygiene with cleaning them out and you should be fine. Rabbits aren't host to many parasites - the main one is e.cuniculi, a brain parasite that does not affect humans.

Not all rabbits like to be stroked. You can try stroking them like a cat, or rubbing their heads - but be gentle, they're delicate creatures! Some rabbits also like to be held on their backs (support them as you would a baby) - it makes them go all still and calm like they're hypnotised - try it once, you'll know it this isn't for your bunny!

You can keep the rabbit in the basement, but as long as it's warm enough and she gets enough love, attention and exercise. The hutch can be kept on the floor, your rabbit will find it easier to get in and out. And yes you can build your own hutch, have a look round pet shops for ideas. The best tip I can give you is to make sure any wire mesh is fixed to the inside of the doors, otherwise your rabbit will chew her way through the wood!

Be careful while cleaning the cages (have someone else do it, if possible). The ammonia build up might be harmful. Not sure, but it's not worth the risk!
