A Day In The Life & I Am The Walrus by The Beatles. It changed everything in music.

Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana was pivotal to the grunge explosion and self-expression.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison. Every rock album after this had to have a least one ballad on it.

Baby's Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot. This phrase is still used in pop culture today.

Just as Long as We're Together by Prince released in 1978. Prince really turned the tables on popular culture by appearing on Saturday Night Live in 1978 wearing black fishnet stockings, high heels, and lip stick.

"From a distance" by Bette Midler captured the sentiment during the Gulf War.

"Girl's Just wanna have Fun" is the epitome of the 80's and the all excesses and changes going on then, maybe not art exactly, but you asked a different kind of question.

For world condition kind of music, there is "We are the World" of course, and "Do they know it's Christmas". Also there is "That's what friends are for" which really was the first celebrity project on a global scale for Aids/HIV awareness.

For me, I love "Fight for your right to party" but thats because it reminds me of my youth, and does the job for me.
