I'm 23 female that had a part time job when I was a teenager. 1) Yes I wanted a job so I could have extra spending money and so I could start saving up a little for college 2) Part time jobs are very useful. They give you experience and teach you how to manage time and money 3) I benefited greatly from my job (being there for 3 years counted as experience for another job I applied for when I was older so I started out making more money than somebody with no experience would have 4) I enjoyed my job a lot. I made so many new friends and being that we had to work face to face with customers, it helped to build my confidence and speech skills. I also learned how to handle upset customers. 5) A part time job should not affect your studies as long as they have flexible hours or the hours you do work do not interfere with your schedule. Most jobs wont let a person under 18 work past 10 pm anyway without a note from their parents or guardian (thats how it is where I live anyway)

Minors under 14 years of age are not allowed to work except in domestic service and a few jobs like newspaper delivery. You could work from home on your computer- write articles, sell on eBay,make a website, take surveys. More details are available at http://www.pcworkathome.net/jobsforminors.html

Federal law is 16. If any business hires you before you're 16, they run the risk of getting fined heavily by the feds.

Generally...yes it is, however, there are restrictions on when a teen can work, and what hours.
Restrictions are generally reduced after you turn 16.
