I'm Portuguese, so I should know.
When I was back in Portugal (until 3 years ago) the age to drink was 16, the lowest in the EU. I rarely drank when I went out, but I do know we are not very strict on asking for ID, which I think is wrong.
Same about smoking, not buying cigarettes, if you were caught smoking under 16 you would be taken to the police station although I've never met anyone to whom this actually happened. If they haven't changed it, it still should be 16.

I just read some of the answers, it is not 14 or 15 hu hu. My doubt was if they had changed it to 18, I know some politicians have been battling on this for years.

It's kinda shady.
For a while there was none, then 16.. and I believe it's at 18 now but I'm not sure. I haven't lived in Portugal for 7 years now.. but I believe they've been trying to make it 18 for a long time. But no one really checks anyway.
