I have been suspended from work on full pay with a disciplinary date pending, if I report in sick on the date can a decision be made to dismiss me in my absence.

Yes, and they can fire you while you're out sick as well. I am sorry this is not better news, but if they want to get rid of you, they have many tricks up their sleeve. They have lawyers on their side to get rid of you legally, employees don't have that luxury.

If this is a union position, and there is no union rule/agreement that you need to be present for the hearing, they can fire you. If this is not a union position, they can definitely fire you.

Why would you call in sick when you're supposed to have your disciplinary hearing anyway? That's your opportunity to give your side of things and convince them NOT to let you go (unless you want to be, for some reason). You are just giving them additional reasons to fire you. It would be seen as disrespectful to the company, that you don't care about the job, much less the time of the other people involved with the hearing. If the job is also union, you would also upset the union reps whose job it is to advocate for you.

Unless you are honestly deathly ill, don't do it!
