Is it ok to smoke around a pet rat, can they get passive smoking cancer?

I read in a newspaper a few months ago that the person who discovered the link between smoking and lung cancer also discovered that the percentage of getting lung cancer from passive smoking is less than 1%.

I don't know if that's right because people campaign so much for passive smokers. But can't you go outside or something and have a cigarette if you're that worried.

they like any other animal or person can get all sorts of cancers from second hand smoke. there are more chemicals in the second hand smoke that is being inhaled by others than in the smoke that is going into the smokers lungs.

You shouldn't light a candle, more or less smoke cigarettes around a rat. They have a highly sensitive respiratory system. If you need to smoke, do it outside, that way it does not risk harm to your rat. It's not worth the ''wait and see'' route to find out if your smoking will harm your rat!!

Actually rats and mice are very prone to respiratory problems, so you'll not be helping by smoking around them - just as you wouldn't be helping a child, or anyone else.

Probably, if children can. But it's a rat so i doubt it will live long enough to get rat cancer. :)

Who do you think they experimented with? Yes rats can suffer also. But who gives a rats ***?
