You need to save up money, because what will happen if your hamster falls ill and needs medical care?

You don't NEED a hamster right now, you just want one. Wait until you are able to truly afford all the necessities required for owning a pet (vet fees, chew toys, exercise wheel, reliable & good cage, etc.)

Look on Craigslist.org to see if anyone locally has a hamster cage (or small bird cage, which is what I used!) available.

Try to avoid the purely plastic, due to the hamster's natural instinct to chew (asking for an escape!), and lack of proper air ventilation/circulation. Same goes for glass aquariums/tanks.

The cage is the only vaguely expensive thing about owning a hamster so you might as well just save up for a little while and get one. I don't think anyone on here is going to give a rats a** about finding out who and where you are and getting a cage to you!

You need toys and bedding too - at least a wheel for hammy or he's going to be very bored and keep you up all night gnawing.
