80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The meaning of life is both profound and simple.
It answers the order of creation, the motive of existence and the mystery of the universe to ourselves.
The meaning of life is:
Awareness Loves Life (A-L-L)
See: http://ucadia.org/uca/u23/230600.htm
Unfortunately, because we are life, we see the statement as
Life Loves Awareness (L-L-A).
But if you were able to comprehend just one thought of the universe from its perspective, then you'd see that the greatest expression of existence is life- that the key to life is existence.
That living is more important than knowing everything.
For example, there is a wonderful quote from buddhism-
before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water;
after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water.
Sadly, we sometimes are mistaken in believing that if we knew everything, our lives would be better. I can assure you that is not the case. Living is what counts.
All the very best.

the meaning of life and living? how many times have you and i asked this question and how many times have we reached a conclusion? you can not give a meaning to life. living a life is not when when you can feel your pules or when you can feel your heart pumps faster or slower. is not when you take another breath and you know you are still alive, being alive and living a life is diffrent life starts when you actualy start to live starting from when you are satisfied with your being whith what you do. life is nothing but a name to this journey that you are in this rolacoster of emotions. life is the esences that you can smell and have no idea where is from is what you see around you, and never realise how emazing things are, i have hardely see a person that lives a life . peopel tend to miss what theye really should have seen and whaen theye know theye are not going to be alive no longer thats when theye start to see what theye have missed.
life means open your eyes and use your senses wisely.
aperetiate what you got and never try to under stemate your powers. be your self and live this life for now not for the futer because thir might be no futer.

Surely the meaning of life is essentially to strive for happiness, whether that be happiness of yourself or the happiness of others.
Think about it: whatever suggestion you can make that could possibly be the meaning of life (except possibly 42 :p ) - be it the meaning of your own life, or in a more generic sense, is always a result of a desire to attain happiness. Whatever purpose your life has at any given time, you only give yourself that purpose because reaching its associated goal brings you happiness.
Look at the examples given in this thread... Getting drunk - don't you only get drunk to feel happy? To love and be loved - is in not true that this is one of the purest forms of happiness life can provide, it certainly is in my life; To reproduce - whether it be reproduction in it's literal sense, or the most enjoyable act that is usually required to reproduce, it's still true that you are seeking satisfaction and thus happiness by reproducing.
I'm yet to find an aim or purpose in my life that isn't ultimately targeted towards being happy. Feel free to prove me wrong if you wish :)

The meaning of life, or rather the point of life, should be love in the absolute sense of the word. Love can save the world.
