I have a Emachines W340UA Laptop. I know that there are better brands out there but wanted to see if this is a good computer. I use it for reserch, downloading music, music videos, and movies. I also have an external hard drive so I can store my media files on that instead of my computer itself. With the info I have given, can anyone tell me if this is a good computer to use? I was thinking about selling this one so I can buy a better one but I probably can't get more than $500 for this and I need about $700 for a new one and don't have the money. Thanks for all your help. If you know of any ways of making my computer better or making it run better please let me know. I do defrag my computer once a week and I have ad-aware downloaded and spybot downloaded to keep my computer clean. I also have Advanced windows care downloaded and CCleaner. I hope this info helps.

If your computer works for your needs, then it is a good computer. Many people have the impression that if you don't have the latest and greatest then your computer isn't good.

If your computer doesn't perform up to your standards, adding memory is one of the easiest ways to improve it. You can also add a video card or audio card (at least I think they have these available for laptops).

I do think you are overly optimistic about getting $500 for your computer. If you can, that's great, but I wouldn't expect to get more than $300 for a used laptop - especially an eMachines which is a bargain brand to begin with.

Since it's a very unknown brand I think you can best answer this question yourself. If it does what you want it to do it's apparently good for the purpose you use it for. If it's not you could try an upgrade. Upgrading the memory for instance by adding 512 MB to an existing 256 MB might give a performance increase that leaves you stunned.
