I grew up in the 80's and it was a cool time.

This is what I remember about the 80's:

--the crack epidemic

---Micheal Jordan & the Chicago Bulls

--Nancy Reagin saying "just say no" when she told us young people to stay away from drugs. We were like "um.. ok"--meanwhile kids are accidentally bringing their parents crack to school--that actually happened in my elementary school!

--Ronald Reagon, his funny voice, and the cold war with the Soviet Union

--Infamous Headliners "The Preppy Murder" (in NY), where an extremly handsome millionare kid killed this young teenage rich girl in Central Park.....
----the headline of "Hedda Nusbaum", which was the worst battered woman abuse story we'd ever seen: Hedda had been beaten so severely in 10 years that he face was permanently disfigured, and her husband killed their 5yr old daughter and she helped him get rid of the body.

---the headline of "Bernard Geotz"--very high profile case of a white, Middle Class white man who killed 5 black male teens on a subway because he felt "threatened"--Big story that opned up the topic of race relations in America.....

....If you include Hedda Nusbaum & Bernanrd Geotz, your teacher will be VERY impressed.

As far as Pop Culture I remember:
"I Want my MTV!"--the debut of all music TV station for the first time in history.

--Micheal Jackson, Micheal Jackson, Micheal Jacskon.
....Back then, he was the KING--a brilliant artist--a geniuis.
I remember when the Thriller music video first debuted--and how MTV would only play in at certain times, and all the kids would stay up waiting for it to come on.-Totally Awesome--we had NEVER seen anything like that video...I remember his performace on the Motown Reunion on TV where he did Bille Jean with the whole glove & moonwalk thing--unreal--there are no words--I still remember that.

Also, I remember that back then--there was NO sex scenes on TV, and ther was nothing sexually provacative except on cable late at night. People from my generation--generation X--we grew up in a time where if you wanted to see a sex scene, you had to "sneak' and stay up late to watch HBO. The stuff that you see today on reality shows on MTV and in music videos--that stuff was considred "porn" in the 80's--seriously.

---Here are all the totally-awesome 80's TV shows:
"Different Strokes", "Facts of Life", "Webster", "Alf", "Punky Brewster", "Benson", and THE COSBY SHOW!!"--Oh My God--that was the BEST show!!.. I remember it was one of the first times in history where white people actually watched a TV Sitcom with an all-black cast. That was the highest rated show for about 6 years. It was just this funny, cute show show that depicted blacks as intelligent, funny & drug free.

I also remember all those cool teen movies like "Weird Science" I swear--that movie is just as good today as it was back then...and "The Goonies" !!!---please watch that movie--I totally wanted to go an adventure like that..and of course the teen queen --the beloved Molly Ringwald and her starring in the best teen 80's movie of all time: "Sixteen Candles"--pleeeease watch that movie--you will never forget seeing a bride walking & tripping & falling down the wedding isle high from too many muscle relaxers.

...Ok--thats enough.--weird to remember being a kid so long ago..where did time go??
....Just google that stuff and you'll see.

PS----Oh, and I almost forgot--Rap Music began in the 80's! The first rap song--"Rappers Delight: hip--hop and you dont stop....and a powerful rap song in '81 called "The Mesaage" that spoke truth to urban black despair and poverty-- a classic.

Class of 1982... I dressed in Band-geek / Stage-hand chic: overalls and t-shirts.. but my lil brother dressed in MAX-Preppy: 4 different pairs of Sperry Topsiders... all his pants were cuffed, and he always had a sweater over his shoulders.

Music: I was into The Beatles, Journey, Huey Lewis and the News, The Police, Phil Collins, Talking Heads, and the soundtrack to Rocky Horror.

Sports: The SF 49ers !!

Headlines: The Death of John Lennon. The Iran Hostage Crisis, Reagans Election, The USS Stark Incident...

Entertainers... see my music, and of course Michael Jackson, Boy George, Prince, The Go-Gos, Men at Work...

Ah I miss the 80's !! DO watch "16 Candles", "The Breakfast Club", "St. Elmo's Fire"...

That show "I love the 80's" is probably your best reference.

I remember some of that stuff, but not all of it and and I lived through it.

I remember banning Disco, We are the world, Rap just starting, Prince, Reagan and Nukes ala Phil Colins. Bell bottom Jeans. Star Wars episode? or rather the Star Wars Missle program.

All those cool video games. Pac Man, Defender, Asteroids, Centipede, Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster. Rubiks Cube.

As far as music goes the 80s was the birth and big days of heavy metal. Groups like Metallica got their start then.
Political Issues? Google Reaganomics.

I seriously have tried to forget the 80s. Stuff that comes to mind however is Madonna with all the lace and bangles, Michael Jackson's Beat It, parachute pants, and seriously big hair. Music was stuff like The Cure and Depeche Mode (at least for me), not to mention that Turning Japanese song.

Have you ever watched The Wedding Singer (Adam Sandler)? That movie pretty much summed it up.

I remember it as a time when Reagan gave huge tax breaks to the rich. He made up for it by raising SS tax on the working stiffs.
