my pond is very messy. it has leaves and many other small particles. and the water is mirky. how should i clean this? i took out a good amount of the leaves.

and in the fall when all the leaves are falling, how do you stop the leaves from entering the pond?

and how do i get the fish to come out? none are floating on the top so i assume they are not dead. but i have only seen 1 out of 8 i think and that was because we moved a large object from where the fish was doing something (that idk)

The best bet is to leave the fish where they are and clean the pond with a large net like a pool cleaning net. Remove as may leaves as possible and allow the filter to remove the finer particles. You will of course need to clean the filter very often until the finer particles have been collected and removed.

Oh man you had to remind me I have to clean mine too! Dang.. lol I get a plastic tub or a kiddy pool and I get water out of the pond and put in it.. Then you get a fish net and softly go around and see if you can catch any off hand.. out them in to the tub or pool.. I use a pump to pump out the water and as it goes down I get the fish as I see them while taking out all the leaves and stuff ..(yuck) As the water level get lower you can get your fish.. ten when you have all the fish out of the pond...clean pond (I use bleach) and I rinse it by re draining what little water is in it.. then I begin to fill it back up again with the hose... I also buy this stuff for the fish and water (forgot the name of it) but it helps coat the fish with slime and it clears the water (safe for fish) I let the new water in the pond sit for a day and then I slowly scoop the fish out of tub/pool and put a few in at a time to see if they adjust to it..( I have lots of fish) and if those do fine then I get the rest out and put them in and then I enjoy the cleanness until I have to do it again next year!
Well that is what I do with my pond..10 by 4....

first capture any fish ,store them into a cantainer, keep the temperature the same, then drain the pond (particles should go too) do not use any chemicals to clean.refill the pond ,add chlorine remover as directed ,wait approxamently 24 hrs ,then place any fish in a large bag with the water they were in,then float them,in the pond for 1 hour ,then release to pond.that should help you and your pond and fishes.

To stop the leaves, see if you can find netting to put over it in the fall. I'm not sure if pond places themselves would sell that, but they might. To clean up now...just keep working on it.
