The British union jack represents a former empire which killed millions and commited the most horrific genocides the world has ever known, The british empire killed more people than any other empire ever did, it represents the slave trade where millions of africans were sold off aross the atlantic ocean, I think it's a racist flag, the flag mainly used by the far-right in Britain and I think it should be made illeagle.
Canada got rid of it in 1965 and fell in love with the maple leave, Australia and New Zealand are also thinking of removing the racist simble in the top left hand corner of there flag. Scotland and Wales are looking to get away from England go for independence and get away from the racist British flag. Ireland want N.Ireland back off british racism
I put the British union jack on par with the swastika or infact worse than the swastika. Go and wave that flag around any of England's former colonies and you'll get and extreamly hostile reception.
What do you think?

Yes it is. The Union flag represents the oppression and conquest of nations, there people, language, culture and trade.
Why does patrism require a coloured cloth, its just a banner to hide behind.

So why is the flag of piracy legal? Pirates traded in slaves. The US traded in slaves, for a good 30 years longer than Britain did, yet you don't criticise them. Why pick on Britain when France, Spain and Portugal all had empires filled with slaves. There still ARE slaves in countries like Brazil (the government doesn't do nearly enough to stop it, even though it is illegal) - why isn't the Brazilian flag a symbol of racism?
And for your information - the union flag represents the united kingdom. That means Wales and Scotland are equally as answerable to it as England is. If there ARE crimes committed under the union flag then Wales and Scotland are not matyrs English imperial rule but co-conspirators. Even if England DID stamp its imperial yolk on them, "I was only following orders" is not an excuse for failing to condemn it.
Certainly every country who had an empire extorted those who were subjegated to it. These countries should apologise and be made to help put right what they put wrong. But saying that these countries should be wiped off the face of the earth is ridiculous - getting rid of the Union Flag (it's not a union jack, that is the naval flag) won't put anything right - and the only person who holds it as a 'symbol of racism' is yourself. Personally I think McDonald's golden arches are a symbol of corporate greed and irresponsibility - the same can go for any major corporate logo, but changing the logo doesn't do anything to change the nature of the thing. The only thing that will change that are the people who run it - Britain ended slavery 200 years ago, and renounced all claims to illigitimate (i.e. after a referendum) empire long ago. That is a step in the right direction. More could be done, but spreading bile and vitriol about a symbol of a country will do no good whatsoever.

Thats almost like saying that speaking english is racist, because it's a sign of people who belonged to (or have some link to) a former empire which "killed millions and commited the most horrific genocides the world has ever known"
You going to make speaking english illegal too?
Sorry if I sound hostile, but you know what I'm saying. You can't just make something illegal because it has a link to slavery and racism, because being a person would also be illegal (if you think about it).
I agree with K, that it used to be associated with slavery and whatnot, but now it's just a flag. The Swastika used to be (and still is as far as I know) a religious symbol that was adopted by Hitler and the Nazi's because of his belief. You can look at Coventry Cathederal (a place bombed by the Nazi's) and look at one of the statue things and you'll find a Swastika on the hat of one of the priests (or whoever it was)

I don't think so. Technically if British flag does represent the idea of rascism then the UN and people around the world will immidiately react to that and banned the flag forever. Flag of NAZI Germany represent fascism thus rascism. I think you interpret the conception and the impression of the flag of UK too far ahead.

With both the cross of Scotland and England on it the Union Jack symboizes the union of the two countries into one called the United Kingdom.

Changing flags won't help racism , only people can do that. Ideas like this only stir up more racism by looking for it where it does not exist. Every country in the world as some unfavorable aspects to their past so why don't we just ban every body's flag?

But the country that used to wave that flag isn't around anymore. The Britain we know today is a far cry from its imperialist days. Thus, the flag once stood for that, but it no longer does. It's like denying a convict the ability to rehabilitate and rejoin society.
