Ok, here you go:
Let x = the cost of one book (all 4 cost the same right?)
So 4x + 5 = 33
Solve for x:
4x = 28
x = 7

So each book cost $7.00. Multiply by 4 and add the shipping charge and voila -- your total is $33.00

good luck!

Let $x be the cost of one book.
The $33 is made up of the total cost (4x) of 4 books and the shipping charge ($5).
The equation is:
4x + 5 = 33

Soliving it.
Subtract 5 from each side:
4x = 28
Divide by 4:
x = 7
The cost of one book is $7.

Check it.
Four books cost $7*4 = $28.
Shipping cost $5.
Total cost = $28 + $5 = $33.

Well if the total cost was $33.00 then you would subtract the $5.00 shiping cost, because that isn't included in the price of the books, and you end up with $28.00 which you divide by the 4 books giving you $7.00 a book.

4x=$33.00-$5.00

4x=$28

4/4 x = 28/4

x=$7.00 per book

the total price of 33 INCLUDED the $5, so your expression ought to be:

let x = the cost of 1 book
then
4x = 33 - 5
4x = 28
x = 28/4

and therefore
x = 7

x = 7

Let x represents the cost of the each book
4x = (33-5)
4x=(28)
x=(28/4)
x=7

therefore, each book cost $7.00 (excluding the tax)

including the tax it will cost $9.50

Your algerbraic expression should be something like this.
(33-5)/4 = x

Then you subtract 5 from 33.
33-5 = 28
Write new expression.
28/4 = x
Divide 4 from 28
28/4 = 7
So x = 7
Then answer your question with a sentence.
The cost of each book was $7.
Hope that helped.

$33=4x+5 equation
- 5=4x subtract 5 in both side 5-5=0; 33-5=28

28=4x it equal 28=4x

28/4=4x/4 divide 4x in both sides 4x/4=4 then
divide 4/28=7

x=7 answer

x=1 book

4x=4books

4x+5=33
4x+5-5=33-5
4x=28
4x/4=28/4
x=7

Its not 9.5 because it the 33 dollars INCLUDES the 5 dollar shipping charge so it will be

4x=(33-5)
4x=28
x= 28/4
x= 7
