Yes - you undoubtedly have head gasket issues, at best. The coolant is leaking into the combustion chamber, causing the smoke and poor idle. Yes, it's complicated. The gasket is between the head and block, so the whole top half of the engine must be removed. The head should then be sent to a machine shop for resurfacing before installing the new gasket and putting it all back together. Could also be a cracked head or, even worse, block. Probably just the head gasket though - no way to tell 'till you tear it apart. Sorry for the bad news.

you have a cracked head or a blown head gasket. Oil interior the coolant comes from the passages ni the top seperating oil gallies from coolant gallies. in the adventure that your rings the place undesirable it may be sucking a great number of oil into your cylinder and burning multiple blue smoke and then fouling out your plugs with out postpone. so which you will could desire to make certain which head is defective. whether it purely a head gasket blown, you have the replenish and that's proactive to have the top rigidity examined and look at out valve facings together as you have it off. only pulling plugs won't continually artwork. because of the fact the crack or the blown head gasket specially circulate over from gally to gally and don't leak into the cylinder. If it develop into leaking right into a cylinder you would be getting white smoke that's indicative of coolant being burnt interior the engine.

If you're lucky, it's blown. If you're not, the head is cracked. One is $300. The other is $700 - $800.
It might not be a great idea to start pouring money into an engine that old. A good used engine wouldn't be much more than a new head.

Yes, it is blown. It is complicated enough that it is probably not worth it to get it fixed at a shop. It could take you all day or longer to do it yourself, but it shouldn't be expensive. (However, if the head itself is bad, and that caused the gasket to go, that could up the price a bit.)

It is a little complicated, but your car is one of the easy ones to do. See if you can pick up a shop manual or find a good mechanic that would help you out. If you took it to a shop they would probably charge you at least a grand.
