In 2006, they beat the A's 4-0 in the ALCS, after having taken the Yankees out 3-1 in the Division Series.
The only other year they made it to the Series since the multi-division format was introduced is 1984, when they swept the Royals 3-0 in the ALCS before winning the World Series in 5 games against San Diego.
